Lesbian Singer Mary Lambert Has A Message For Us. Her Words Are Painful, Beautiful, Poetry.

Mary Lambert - the singer behind the chorus to Macklemore’s Same Love - has a new track out. It’s called Body Love. And it takes no prisoners.
Part of the #1Mic1Take series, Mary’s spoken word study of self-love - or a lack thereof - dissects the pressure society places on women and their body image. The gut-wrenching lyrics question our world’s misogynistic obsession with make-up, fashion and body weight and even explore darker topics like eating disorders, self-harm and death.
But what might seem bleak and angsty at first soon climaxes with an important message many women - and indeed LGBT people - may connect with. As the track progresses, Mary spells out a determination desperate to give her own pain a chance for recovery and encourages us to do the same: to love ourselves - ‘flaws’ and all.
In a world where we’re surrounded by images of so-called ‘perfection’ on our laptops, smartphones and magazines, Mary’s message is a refreshing one that aims to bring us back to centre. “Our bodies deserve to be more than war-torn and collateral”, she says, before adding: “Love your body the way your mother loved your baby feet”.
Wise words from a worthy rising star and an awesome ambassador for women, the LGBT community and anyone who’s ever been oppressed.
Body Love is available now on Mary’s Welcome to the Age of My Body EP.
